Mining and geological engineers use pre-recorded data to design safe mining structures as well as develop efficient excavation procedures. While working on a team of engineers and geoscientists, most tend to work in the field at ground zero of the mining operation, while few work from consulting offices in more urban areas. Many of the mining and geological engineers who do work on site act as construction supervisors along with preparing the technical reports to guide miners to the deposits.

Camino para convertirse en ingeniero geólogo y minero

Aval de la escuela secundaria: STEM

Los requisitos de admisión para las escuelas de ingeniería universitaria incluyen una sólida formación en matemática (álgebra, geometría y cálculo) y ciencia (biología, química y física), con cursos en inglés, estudios sociales y humanidades. Esfuércese por obtener buenas notas en la escuela secundaria y busque programas de ubicación avanzada y preparación universitaria. 

The basic requirement to become a mining and geological engineer is a bachelor's degree in an accredited engineering program, or a specific mining engineering program if available. Mining and geological engineers starting out will work under the supervision of experienced engineers or get seminar-styled training as they learn the ins and outs of the industry.

At entry level positions, licensure is not required to become a mining and geological engineer, though applying for a Professional Engineering (PE) license can boost chances of being promoted into a leadership position. In Texas, the Society for Mining Metallurgy and Exploration offers a Certified Mine Safety Professional certification for mine safety engineers specifically.
